The National Film Award is one of the most prominent and the oldest award ceremony in India. The awards were introduced in 1954 and administrated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973. A panel is appointed by the government every year to select the winning entry. The award ceremony is held in New Delhi and the awards are distributed by the President of India.
The jury of the National Film Awards chooses the winners for Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film. The awards are presented to a feature film production which deals with themes relating to National Integration in India. The award was first introduced in 1966 and the inaugural award was bagged by S. Ram Sharma for the movie ‘Shaheed’.
