2010 was marked as a year of union between the digital and music space. Grammys updated its site featuring blogs, video to highlight this ceremony like never before. The 52nd Grammy Awards ceremony was held on 31st January 2010, at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Grammys presented awards to various artists for their musical achievements within the last year. The show was telecasted on CBS Television from 8-11:30 PM. It was packed with 16 performances for almost four hours. The performances were contributed from some of the gigantic names in the music industry.
The show was kicked off by Lady Gaga with her hit single “Poker Face”. Later she was joined by Elton John on stage and together they performed “Speechless” and later followed by John’s hit single, “Your Song”. This was a much anticipated duet performance for the night. “21 Guns” was performed by Green Day with the Broadway cast of their American Idiot. Beyonce paraded with a group of black uniformed troopers and sung “If I Were A Boy” and “You Oughta Know” was sung by Alanis Morissette. Pink (an American singer) stripped off her robe and performed an acrobatic act in the air above the crowd. Jaws dropped in the audience when she walked on the stage wearing only white straps over a flesh-colored body suit. She was nearly naked while performing “Glitter in the Air”.
Country music singers, Lady Antebellum jammed their hit song “Need You Now”. The Black Eyed Peas were nominated for 6 Grammy categories. They performed a remix of the popular hits “ImmaBe” and “I Gotta Feeling”. Zac Brown Band performed “Amazing Grace” and later the band was joined on stage by Leon Russell for a live rendition of their hit single “Chicken Fried”. The performance also saw Kristian Bush accompany the band on guitars.. Next up was Taylor Swift with “Today was a Fairytale”. Stevie Nicks shook up the stage by joining Swift and together they sang “Rhiannon” & “You Belong With Me”. The wonderful singers could not perform well due to the differences in their vocals.
Bon Jovi gave a hit performance on his song “We Weren’t Born To Follow” and was later joined on stage by Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland), for a duet performance on “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”. He closed the performance with his 1986 hit single “Living on a Prayer”. Dave Matthews Band performed “You and Me”.
A very special moment at the Grammys was a 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson. Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Carrie Underwood, and Usher got together on stage to perform Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’. Grammys honored Michael Jackson with the notable ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. Prince and Paris (Jackson’s two eldest children) accepted the award on behalf of their late father.
