The star screen awards are the most anticipated of all the Indian film awards. The alluring screen awards came into existence in the year 1994. Since then Mr. Viveck Goenka of the Indian Express Group initiates all the screen award ceremonies. The screen awards are the only Indian award ceremony which has involved the Executive Director and the Governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The awards are presented to the winners on the basis of their outstanding performance in the Bollywood. The nomination and selection is done by a panel of eminent personalities from the film industry itself. Thus these awards are rightly considered as one of the prestigious and toughest award to win in Bollywood. All the screen award ceremonies are generally held in the heart of the Indian film industry (Mumbai).
The unique feature of the screen awards is that it is presented to Hindi and Marathi films, TV and Non-film Music in the month of January every year. To boost their popularity, screen awards also held seven editions of 'Screen Awards for excellence in South Indian, to recognize and reward regional movies of South India. The South Indian films which were awarded were in Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil.
