January 17, 2010 saw the first ever live broadcast of the Golden Globes from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Up in the Air led the race from among the list of nominees with six nominations but ended up winning just one Globe for Best Screenplay. The hugely popular James Cameron directed Avatar walked away with the Globes for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director - Motion Picture.
Meryl Streep walked away with the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical. She was nominated twice for this category, for her roles in Julie & Julia and It's Complicated. In the television categories, Glee was a surprise winner bagging the Globe for Best Television Series - Comedy Or Musical. Alec Baldwin won Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Comedy Or Musical for his character Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock. The Cecil B. DeMille Award was bestowed upon Martin Scorsese for his outstanding contributions to the field of entertainment and films.
