The Filmfare Awards has maintained its glitter and shimmer since the year of its inception. The awards are presented to artists for their outstanding performance in Indian cinema. The Filmfare Best Background Score award was introduced in 1998, and the inaugural award was grabbed by Viju Shah for the film ‘Gupt: The Hidden Truth'. It was a suspense thriller movie which was highly acclaimed for its storyline and soundtrack. The film was directed by Rajiv Rai and released in the year 1997. A.R. Rahman swept many filmfare awards in this category since its inception.
