The National Film Awards is the oldest and most prominent film award ceremony in India. The award ceremonies were established in 1954. Since 1973, National Film Awards are administrated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals. Every year the Government of India holds the award ceremony in New Delhi and appoints a panel, which selects the winning entry. The President of India hands out the awards to the winners for the year. The winners are honored with a cash prize of Rs.1, 00,000 and a Swarna Kamal (golden lotus). The jury presents ‘Best Children's Film’ award to the film that deals with themes surrounding children. The ‘Best Children’s Film’ award is one of the sub-categories of Silver Lotus Award and was first introduced in the year 1967. The inaugural award was bagged by M.V.
