The Grammy Award for Best Country Song has been handed out since 1965. The award is applicable only to the writer of the song. It was known as Best Country and Western Song from 1965 to 1968. It was awarded as Best Country Song from 1969 to 1983, and was given out as Best New Country Song in 1984. From 1984 to present it has been awarded as Best Country Song.
