The Filmfare Awards were incepted to acknowledge the outstanding performance of artists in Bollywood. The first Filmfare Award ceremony was held in the year 1954. Since then, Filmfare expanded its horizon and assumed the shape of a grand ceremony. The concept of documentary films was first introduced in sixties and it turned out to be an exciting decade for the Indian film industry. The Best Documentary award was introduced in the year 1967. The inaugural award was bagged to Clement T. Baptista for his documentary film ‘Handicrafts of Rajasthan’. For unknown reasons the award was delisted from the filmfare awards list in 1998. Listed below are the winners of this category since 1967.
