The country’s prestigious National Film Awards were established in the year 1954. The awards were introduced by the government of India to encourage and honor the films that are directed across India and also promoted Indian art and culture. Since 1973, the national award ceremonies are administrated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals. Every year the award ceremonies are held in New Delhi and the winning entry is selected by a national panel appointed by the government. The President of India hands out the awards to the winners for the year. The ‘Best Film on Family Welfare’ award was introduced in the year 1969 and was first presented to the Hindi film ‘Anchal Ke Phool’ directed by Karunesh Thakur. Anchal Ke Phool is a heart rending story of a poor person who always ends up taking worst decision of his life. His decisions further have a great impact on all the members of his family.
