The prominent National Film Awards were incepted in the year 1954. Since 1973, the award ceremonies have been administrated by the Indian government’s ‘Directorate of Film Festivals’. The National award ceremonies are generally held in New Delhi and the awards are handed out by the President of India to the winners for the year. The ‘Best First Non-Feature Film’ is one of the sub-categories of Non-Feature Film Awards which was introduced in the year 1993. The inaugural award was bagged by the Hindi film ‘Bazar Sitaram’ directed by Neena Gupta.
