The National Film Awards were incepted in the year 1954 to encourage and honor movies directed across India. Since 1973 Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festival administered the award ceremonies. Each year the award ceremonies are held in New Delhi and the awards are presented by the President of India to all the winners for the year. The ‘Best Feature Film in Hindi’ award was introduced in 1962 and the award was first presented to Yash Chopra for the film ‘Dharmputra’.
