The country’s oldest National Film Awards were incepted in the year 1954. Since 1973 the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals administrates the award ceremonies. Each year the government appoints a national panel to select the winning entry. The national awards are handed out by the President of India to the winners in New Delhi every year. The ‘Best Non-Feature Film Cinematography’ award is one of the sub-categories of Non-Feature Film awards and was introduced in the year 1991. The winners for the inaugural award were Santosh Sivan and Victor Bannerjee.
