The National Film Awards are one of the country’s prestigious awards established in 1954. Since 1973, the award ceremonies have been administrated by the Government of India’s ‘Directorate of Film Festivals’. The awards are presented to the films which are directed across India promoting Indian art and culture. Every year national awards are organized in New Delhi and the President of India hands out the awards to the winners for the year. A national panel is appointed by the government to select the winning entry every year. The ‘Best Non-Feature Film Editing’ award is one of the sub-categories of Non-Feature Film award which was introduced in 1997. The inaugural award was bagged by the editor A.Sreekar Prasad for the film ‘Nauka Caritramu’. A.Sreekar Prasad is a film editor from Andhra Pradesh and has also worked on Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and English films. He has been honored with National Award for ‘Best Editing’ seven times over two decades. He won a recent award for his film ‘Firaaq’ directed by Nandita Das.
