It was changed to Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Group in 1972. It was changed to Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus from 1973 to 1980. From 1981 to 2003 it was awarded as Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and in 2004 the title was revised once again to the currently used Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Earth, Wind and Fire are the most nominated in the category with a total of 9 nominations. Both Beyonce and Earth, Wind and Fire have won the award 4 times making them the most awarded artists in the category.
