'Oscar for Original Music Score' is offered to the "best substantial body of music in the form of dramatic underscoring written exclusively for the film by the submitting composer". Earlier, this category of award was broadly categorized into two parts - 'Oscar for Best Score - Adaptation or Treatment' and ' Oscar for Original Music Score'.
The academy gave 'Oscar for Best Score - Adaptation or Treatment' from the 1963 ceremony and continued only till 1968. Thereafter, it was substituted by 'Score of a Musical Picture-original or adaptation'.
