The Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Gospel Album has been handed out since 1991. The predecessor of this category awarded from 1978 to 1983 was named the Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Contemporary. The award was renamed Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album in 2007.
