The Grammy Award for Best Soul Performance was handed out from 1969 to 1977. The award was divided into two new awards in 1978, the Grammy Awards for Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Traditional and Grammy Award for Best Soul Gospel Performance, Contemporary. Edwin Hawkins won the award in two consecutive years, in 1970 and in 1971.
