The Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album has been handed out since 1999.Tejano is the name given to various forms of folk and popular music originating among the Hispanic populations of Central and Southern Texas. The award was first known as Best Tejano Music Performance. In 2000 it was awarded as Best Tejano Performance. Before 1999 Tejano music was awarded under the category Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance. In 2001the Academy came up with the currently used title Best Tejano Album.
