The National Film Awards is considered as one of the country’s oldest and prestigious film awards. The awards were established in the year 1954. They were introduced by the government to honor and encourage the movies directed across India. Each year the government appoints a national panel to select the winning entry and the prestigious awards are given away by the President of India to the winners for the year. The ‘Best Feature Film in Telugu’ award was introduced in 1966. It was first awarded in 1966 to K. S. Sethumadhavan for the movie ‘Sthree’. K. S. Sethumadhavan is an Indian director of Malayalam films and has also directed films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. He was also honored with ‘Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration’ for the film ‘Achanum Bappayum’ in 1973. He has directed over 60 movies since the early 1960s.
