The glitzy Filmfare Awards were first handed out in the year 1954. Since then, they have expanded and have become one of bollywood’s grandest film award ceremonies. The awards were introduced with the aim of recognizing and encouraging upcoming talent in the Indian film industry. The readers of the Filmfare Magazine select the winners by casting their votes. The artist who receives the highest number votes is announced the winner of the category. The film ‘Dosti’ directed by Satyen Bose swept most of the awards for the year. The film is based on friendship between two boys, one crippled and the other, blind.
