The Lifetime Achievement award is a special award given out by the Recording Academy to performers or artists who during their lifetimes or careers have made creative contributions of outstanding artist significance to the field of recording. In 1972, the award was also presented to non-performers, but in the present day, the Grammy Trustees Award is presented to non-performers and the Grammy Hall of Fame Award honors specific recordings rather than individuals.
