IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) awards are considered as one of the grand ‘celebration of Indian Cinema’. The endearing awards were incepted in 2000 to acknowledge and honor artists for their outstanding performance in the film (released previous year). The IIFA best art direction is one of the sub-categories of technical awards and the winner for the award is chosen by the global audience. The award was introduced in the year 2008 and the inaugural award was bagged by Sabu Cyril for his film ‘Om Shanti Om’. He is an Indian film art director who graduated from the Madras School of Arts and Crafts. He kick started his career in 1988 and has directed more than 480 advertisements and 50 feature films in all south Indian languages (including Hindi).
