The inception of the International Indian Film Academy signifies the international success of bollywood. The awards were first handed out in 2000 and were introduced to acknowledge outstanding performance of an artist in the Indian film industry. The winner of the IIFA best male playback award is chosen by the global viewers through voting. The inaugural award was grabbed by Udit Narayan for the track ‘Chand Chupa Badal Mein’ (Film - Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam).
