The International Indian Film Academy is the first Indian award ceremony which promotes Indian cinema globally. The glamorous awards were kicked off in the year 2000. The best movie award is one of the main awards presented. The award is given to the best movie released in the bollywood (previous year). The winners for the award are chosen through a worldwide audience poll. The award was first presented to the film ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film was shot in the border region of Gujarat-Rajasthan and is based on the Bengali novel ‘Na Hanyate’ authored by Maitreyi Devi.
