The “Music Video” field was added to the list of fields awarded at the Grammys when the Grammy Award for Best Video of the Year was introduced in 1982, the award handed out only for two years. Other awards that were included in the field but later retired are Best Concept Music Video and Best Performance Music Video. Currently only two categories are awarded in the “Music Video” field, they are:
- Best Short Form Music Video - The Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video has been handed out since 1984. It was introduced along with the Best Short Form Music Video. In 1988 and 1989 the award criteria was changed and the awards were presented as Best Concept Music Video and Best Performance Music Video.
- Best Long Form Music Video - The Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video has been handed out since 1984. The award criteria was changed in 1988 and 1989 when the awards were presented for Best Concept Music Video and Best Performance Music Video instead of Best Short Form Music Video.
