In 1991, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences introduced Grammy viewers to an award titled MusiCares Person of the Year. It has been presented annually after its introduction; the award recognizes artistic achievement in the music industry and dedication to philanthropy. MusiCare is a non-profit health care organization dedicated to provide health and medical assistance to needy musicians. The recipients are chosen by the MusiCare foundation and are honored during the Grammy week. A tribute concert with all the stars at the Grammys helps raise money for the foundation. The first three years after the introduction of the award, the recipients were, David Crosby, Bonnie Raitt, and Natalie Cole. Others to win the award for their contributions are: Phil Collins, Elton John, Sting, Quincy Jones, James Taylor, Don Henley, Aretha Franklin, and Neil Diamond among others.
