The country’s oldest and prominent National Film Award ceremony was established in the year 1954. Since 1973, the ceremonies are administrated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals. Every year the award ceremonies are held in New Delhi and the awards are presented to the winners by the President of India. The government of India introduced the award ceremony to recognize and encourage films directed across India. The ‘Best Editing’ award is one of the sub-categories of Silver Lotus Award which was introduced in 1977. The inaugural award was presented to K. Babu Rao for the Telugu film ‘Siri Siri Muvva’. The film centers on the journey of an innocent girl into the world of Classical dance. The movie was directed by K. Viswanath and produced by Edida Nageshwara Rao.
