The Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Vocal Group introduced in 1961 was one of the very first categories that were in the “pop” field. Over the years numerous awards were added to the field. Awards such as Best Vocal Performance, Female, Best Vocal Performance, Male, Best Performance by a Vocal Group, Best Performance by a Chorus, these awards were replaced with other awards over time. Currently there are seven categories awarded from the “pop” field, they are:
- Best Female Vocal Solo - The Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance is the latest title given to a series of awards that recognizes vocal performance by a female in the pop category. It was first awarded in 1959 as Best Vocal performance, female.
- Best Male Vocal Solo - The Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance has been handed out since 1966. The title of the award has seen numerous changes over the years. In the year of its inception it was known as Best Contemporary (R&R) Vocal Performance - Male.
- Best Duo Or Group With Vocals - The Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals has been handed out since1995. It was known as Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Collaboration in the year of its introduction.
- Best Collaboration With Vocals - The Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album has been handed out since 2001.
- Best Instrumental - The Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance has been handed out since 1969. It was introduced with the title Best Contemporary-Pop Performance, Instrumental in 1969.
- Best Pop Instrumental Album - The Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals has been handed out since 1966. It was known as Best Contemporary (R&R) Performance - Group (Vocal or Instrumental) from 1966 to 1967.
- Best Pop Vocal Album - The Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album was first handed out in 1968 and then since 1995. It was known as Best Contemporary Album in 1968. The title was changed to Best Pop Album in 1995 when it was given for the second time.
