The Record of the Year has been one among the most sought after trophies at the Grammy Awards, since its introduction in 1959. The organizers of the awards have changed its recipients over the course of time. From 1959 to 1965 only the artists received the award. In 1966, the award was presented to both the artist and the producer; in 1999 the award was revised again to include the engineer and/or mixer along with the writer and producer. The record refers to a single song that was recorded by the artist and the producer, recording engineer and/or mixer for that song is also awarded. The only two artists to win Record of the year in two consecutive years were Roberta Flack and U2 in 1972-73 and 2001-02 respectively. Henry Mancini, Art Garfunkel, The Fifth Dimension, Eric Clapton, Norah Jones are the other artists that have won two awards in this category. Paul Simon took homethis award thrice giving him the most number of wins in this category.
Frank Sinatra is the most nominated artist in this category; he was nominated a whooping seven times for Record of the Year but won the award just once. Twenty four of the winners of Record of the Year have also won Song of the Year.
