The National Film Awards are one of the country’s most prestigious film awards. The awards were first established in the year 1954. Since 1973, the award ceremonies are initiated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Films Festivals. The Government of India introduced the award ceremonies to honor and encourage films that were directed across India. Every year the government appoints a national panel to select the winning entry. The awards are presented by the President of India to the winners for the year. The ‘Best Actor Award’ is one of the sub-categories of Silver Lotus Award and was first introduced in the year 1968. The inaugural award was bagged by Uttam Kumar for the movie ‘Antony Firingee & Chiriakhana’. Kamal Haasan & Mammootty are the frequent winners for the best actor category.
