The ‘Best Art Direction’ award is one of the sub-categories of Silver Lotus Award and was first introduced in 1980. The inaugural award was presented to the movie ‘22 June 1897’. It is a 1979 Marathi film, directed by Jayoo Patwardhan and Nachiket Patwardhan; co-written by Shankar Nag and Nachiket Patwardhan. The movie is based on the true life story of the assassination of British Government officers Rand ICS and Lt. Ayerst.
