The Grammy for Song of the Year goes to composer of the song unlike popular misconception that it goes to an artist who performed the song. This category has been awarded since the birth of the Grammys in 1959. It is one among the four most prestigious awards at the Grammys. A song nominated for Song of the Year may also be nominated for Record of the Year. Unlike Record of the Year, which goes to the performer and production team of a single song, Song of the Year goes to the composer(s) of the song.
