The Indian film industry saw the birth of the Filmfare Awards in 1954. These awards are believed to be the barometers to measure the performance of artists in Bollywood. The winners of the awards are announced on the basis of the highest votes received by readers of filmfare. The award ceremony began acknowledging artists for their special talent and contribution to the Indian film industry. The Filmfare Special Award, also known as the Special Mention, performance or Jury Award, has been presented to artists ever since the year 1995.
