The Indian cinema industry saw the birth of the Star Screen Awards in the year 1994. The distinctive feature of the Star Screen Awards is that, the awards are presented by the film fraternity to the film fraternity. A panel of eminent judges is appointed within the industry to select the winners for the year. The ‘Best Music Director’ award was introduced in 1995 and was first presented to R.D. Burman for the film ‘1942: A Love Story’.
